The arctic tundra looked forlorn at first glance, but after I sat quietly for awhile, I found myself surrounded by the gentle tinkling songs of Lapland Longspurs. It seemed that they were everywhere during that early spring visit.
After several days on the tundra, an arctic fox adopted me. At one point she walked up, curled up on the grass six feet to my side, and fell asleep. You might hear her barking call in the distance at the beginning of this recording.
